The chairman of the Jefferson County Historical Society History Research Committee is a published Jefferson County historian. A retired longtime teacher of history, he compiles articles full of interesting facts from our early history collected while researching for new publications. Links to some of his articles are listed below. More of his articles are included in each quarterly publication of the Jeffersonian newsletter available only to members, and in publications available for sale at the village.

Been wanting to check out the Jefferson County Illinois Historical Village but the open hours don’t fit your schedule? Call the office and schedule a group tour. Some of our best-trained docents will be happy to open the village buildings and the museum at your convenience.
When a tour is scheduled, we notify a local blacksmith. If possible, one will be on hand to fire up a forge in the Blacksmith Shop. When the tour reaches the forge, the smith will demonstrate the nearly lost art of blacksmithing. It is always a fascinating stop for tourists and tour guides alike.
The village educational benefits attract dozens of student field trips during the school year. Schools travel up to 200 miles to show their students what life was like up to two centuries ago.
Some of the recent tour groups are pictured below.
At the turn of the 21st century, members of the Jefferson County Historical Society collected pictures and related stories of significant local history and turned them into an educational coloring book. With the permission of Dorothy Puckett, the complete book has been reproduced for the enjoyment and education of children of all ages. Just click here, read the stories, and print the pictures for coloring.
