This is your first-stop resource for information on the history of Jefferson County Illinois. The websites referenced on the Links page contain links to hundreds of related websites for your convenience. The last reference under Research contains over one hundred additional links, including one to William Henry Perrin's The History of Jefferson County, Illinois. Perrin's 1883 publication contains details of the county settlement and development plus township by township records of the early settlers, their recognition of the importance of education, and the first teachers and school facilities.
At the village, you have access to all the historical buildings and artifacts identified throughout this website. A docent-led field trip through the facility can be scheduled by calling the office. A trip through the Time Line Trail can provide students insight into significant Jefferson County events as they related to national and international events, and encourage their research into details behind the headlines.
Teachers, students, and interested reviewers are invited to contribute to further development of this section. Though the site already provides convenient access to tons of information, it is considered just the beginning. Information will be added as we become aware. You are encouraged to send us your favorite website links for inclusion.
Envisioned further growth includes the teacher login. Several teachers have been given login capability and space to document items of interest such as their favorite lesson plans and winning research project reports. As interest grows, a schools hub can be added to accommodate individual schools and their student/teacher teams. All interested in build-out of this capability are encouraged to join us and help make it happen.
